Do you want to work as an actor?
Well, you need to know your “type” or “types”.
In a nutshell: the roles you look like are your type. For example, someone you don’t know might remark that you have the appearance for a certain part in something.
All pro actors know the roles that suit them best. As they can easily meet the requirements for those parts, they tend to go for the roles that fall within their type or look, and so, they frequently audition for those roles.
If you’re keeping up with the acting experts, you’ll often hear them say: “If you want to succeed, focus on roles that fit your type – because you know, you have the best odds at landing them.”
How can you determine your type?
Your type is determined by your appearance. Not necessarily who you are, as an actor you want to present a specific image.
Do people see you as a rugged, adventurous backpacker?
An enthusiastic, trustworthy companion?
A nerdy college student?
What adjectives come to mind when someone looks at you, before any words are exchanged?
Artistic?
Quirky?
Searching?
Exotic?
Educated?
Philosophical?
Snobby?
